Awareness towards your own risk tolerance and investing style helps you in making wiser investments and serves as a guide to success. There are several different types of investments available but the investment style comprises mainly of three types – conservative, moderate and aggressive. These three styles are strictly concerned with one’s risk tolerance capability.

Investors with low risk tolerance normally adopt conservative or moderate investing styles. Those with high risk tolerance are likely to adopt moderate or aggressive investment styles. Additionally, your financial goals also determine the styles to be adopted.

Conservative investors tend to save their initial investment. If they invest $5000, then they also make sure of receiving the same amount as returns. Investors with these styles usually make investments in common bonds, stocks or short term money market accounts.

Moderate style investors invest much alike conservative style investors but uses a part of their investment for riskier investments. These investors usually make 50% of their investments in conservative type investments and use the remainder for high risk investments.

If you wish to invest for retirement in your early twenties, then may adopt a conservative or moderate style. But if you decide to invest for buying a house within the next two years, then you will be required to adopt an aggressive style of investing.

Aggressive investors tend to take risks or even higher risks as opposed to conservative or moderate investors. They make high investments on risky ventures, irrespective of being short or long terms, with a hope of receiving higher returns. Their all or most investments are linked together in the stock market.

Adopting an investment style largely depends on your financial goals and risk tolerance capability. It is essential to carefully research each of your investments irrespective of its type. Also remember not to invest until and unless you are armed with enough knowledge.
