Lenovo Ideapad U150 Notebook

The Lenovo Ideapad U150 has been released early this year and has given its first impressions. The U150 is ultra thin, light weight and is well built. It hardly weighs three pounds and the half-inch thickness makes it the most portable and easier to carry wherever you go. The U150 seems to be a stepping stone from bookish type of laptops to the land of ultra-portable laptops. Performance should be right around the corner for an ultra-portable, and the Ideapad U150 has made justice in this regard.

The Ideapad U150 is a cool looking laptop that has a very strong body and comes in two vibrant colors namely a white lid or a black lid. The design is unique with a kind of crystal like or spider-web like design on the lid with the Lenovo label at the corner. The makers refer this design as “Sky Star”. The screen borders with shiny plastic that matches with the lid. The keyboard area is silver colored except the black functional keys. The Sky Star design is carried all around the keyboard as well. The U150 is a sleek, light weight notebook that is easier to carry. That’s the main reason it is called ultra-portable.

Performance and Working:

The black version is more muscular and performs better than the red version. The size remains the same. But the internal specifications vary in both the models. The black version performs well with a 4GB RAM, 320GB hard drive and Intel Core2 Duo SU7300 processor compared to the 3GB RAM, 250GB hard drive and Intel Core2 Duo SU4100 of the red version. The black version has the extra processing power compared to the red version.

Watching the media on the wide screen with high resolution was pleasurable. The colors appear very sharp and the screen is very glossy making it clearly visible in any type of lighting condition. The gaming experience with the U150 was disappointing with regard to games that require high graphics. The audio quality is best when u have your headphones with you. The inbuilt speakers are very tiny and unconvincing when compared to the other performance issues of the system.

The keyboard is comparatively large than other ultra-portable systems and makes working easier with regard to text-intensive items. The trackpad is situated just above the base edge. The pointer might just shake a little when used through the touchpad. The status lights at the bottom and top of the keyboard allows you to keep track of hard drive status and the battery status. The makers’ battery life is 7 hours which is pretty attractive for any user. The connectivity options are also many such as Bluetooth, 4-in-1 card slot and USB ports. For networking, the U150 provides Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11a/g/n, Wireless Ethernet and Bluetooth.

Lenovo has the Idea Central feature that puts a variety of tools such as drive manager, network setup, windows update, PC security and so on. But the worse part is that the Idea Central is more or less like an ad portal of Lenovo featuring more ads than the serving as a tool for the user. The webcam provided enables face recognition while you log in to your system, but this depends on the lighting conditions when you log in.

Pros and Cons:

The Lenovo Ideapad U150 has the advantage in great looks and a convincing performance. The battery backup is pretty decent. The design is very strong and attractive.

The drawbacks are the poor gaming performance and the cheap keyboard layout. The Idea Central feature is attractive but makes its usage very tiring and pathetic with the ads in it.

Conclusion:

If you are looking for a laptop for working that provides great performance and not for gaming purpose then this is the end for your search. Priced very reasonable, this is indeed a good choice. No compromise has been made on the looks. The battery life is pretty appreciative and the light weight and sleek design makes it a good choice for an ultra-portable laptop.
