Nokia X3 Review

The Nokia X3 is the latest phone released by the world’s largest manufacturer, NOKIA in its X series. Being launched in the month of December in 2009, it is believed to be the next generation of the makers’ Express Music series by making it even more portable with new exciting features. It is basically designed to be suited for music lovers and is the first device to be Ovi store-enabled. Ovi offers services which include a variety of games and other applications.

Design and Technical Specifications:

The X3 comes in 2 different combinations of colors- Red on Black and Blue on Silver. It is a slider phone and has a small TFT display screen of 2.2 inches supporting 256k colors and weighs 103g. The loud speakers are the stereo speakers and a 3.5mm jack is provided for the headsets. Dedicated music keys are present for the ease of use. The phonebook has 2000 entries along with a Photocall option. The call records stores 20 calls in each of dialed received and missed call entries. It comes with an internal memory of 46MB, expandable up to 16GB through a micro SD card slot.

The GPRS option of class 32 is present along with EDGE technology of Class 32 and data rate of 296/178.8kbps are present for the transfer of data. Bluetooth is present but 3G and WLAN are absent. The USB port is supportive for a micro USB chord. The camera is of 3.2MP with the highest screen resolution of 2048X1536 and the video capture rate is 15fps. The WAP 2.0 browser is installed for web browsing. Inbuilt radio and pre loaded games like ‘Guitar Rock Tour’,’ Snake III’ and ‘City Bloxx’ are provided. The games are downloaded and can be installed. The GPS is absent in this series. The battery is a standard Lithium-Ion battery. The price of X3 is USD200 or INR9500 approximately.

The exterior looks of the mobile would first seem like a metallic robust body, but the makers have disappointed it by making a fiber body to cut down on the costs. The music keys are pretty descent and are integrated very flat to the surface. The 3.5mm audio jacks can be used for the headphones or through wireless headphones using Bluetooth. The X3 unfortunately does not support 3G and the users have to depend on the slow GPRS and EDGE technologies. The sliding action is inappreciably tight due to the friction of the fiber body.

The home screen allows you to view your contacts and the current playing track. The animated wallpapers are attractive which shows the battery strength signal. The instant messaging option is supported by Nokia X3; such as Yahoo, Nokia chat and Windows Live Messenger. The phone features a flash player that is inbuilt and an auto landscape orientation feature.

Conclusion:

The keys on the keypad are large but are unsatisfactory for dialing. The Office document viewer is absent which makes it more awkward. The software bugs that are present make it more insignificant for the users. Though the video recording is at 15frames per second, it is ideal for many users.

The sound quality seems to be very appreciative. The music playback is of 26hrs which is supposed to be a major attraction. The rich pre installed set of applications is another plus point in X3. The Ovi package is an added advantage in this product.

The X3 has a few minuses as well. The absence of 3G and no true multi tasking is a major disadvantage. The tight slider action is pretty unacceptable. The display is very small comparatively. The absence of accelerometer for auto screen adjusting and the office document viewer is disappointing. The smart dialing feature is also absent in X3.

On the whole, the Nokia X3 is a fantastic choice if you are a music lover. It has appealing features that are mainly to attract the younger generation. The clarity of sound is very appreciable and music lovers should have a look at this one and probably settle down with this.
