During recent times rebates have grown quite popular on various items. Especially on electronic and computer products, rebates offered at $20, $50 and $100 are common.
I have even seen certain products advertised for being free after rebate. Can rebates be considered as too good for truth? Yes, to some extent and there are certain offers to watch out for which help you in getting ideal deals.
Rebates work in a way which involves paying the list price for a product. Then you mail a form with the bar code. Then the company pays you the refund thereby by reducing the product’s price after few weeks.
Rule 1- Rebates by reputable companies are usually fine :
Rebates are quite sure from Amazon, Best Buy or Dell and unsure from unheard companies. If you really like the product and are fine with its list price then purchase it but never rely on refunds.
Rule 2 – Verify rebate’s expiration date :
Some times products remain on retailer’s shelf even after the rebate date expires. So carefully check the dates before buying.
Rule 3 – Make sure you have all the forms required to file for the rebate :
Almost every rebate requires some forms to fill, money receipt and the bar code.
Rule 4 – Back up your claim :
Backup your claim documents for rebate. If it gets misplaced by the mail service and the rebate includes $50 then it is worth backing up.
