Any damage or an injury to a nerve or a set of nerves is known as a Pinched Nerve. Pinched nerve is a catchy phrase more commonly used for the injuries resulting from compression or stretching. The symptoms of pinched nerve have to be known for the better treatment.

The symptoms include burning sensation, numbness, tingling and severe pain. The best example is having a limb “fall asleep” in which there is complete numbness in the limb.

It is very difficult to treat a pinched nerve since the main and the best cure is “rest”. Most of the times, it does not respond to any massage or therapy or even medication. The pinched nerve is caused most of the times due to the tissue surrounding the nerve becoming stressed out of an injury. Locating and isolating the source of pain is important, as it can occur in any area of the body. The common areas to get a pinched nerve are wrists, elbows, neck and shoulders.

But the other methods of treating pinched nerves are Acupressure and acupuncture which have shown successful results. Medications, muscle relaxants and a gentle massage can reduce the amount of pain. In most of the cases massages help in the relaxation of muscles. But if it is an extreme case, consulting a doctor is preferred and the doctor might prefer you to undergo a surgery or you may be given injections to reduce the pain.

Certain steps may be followed to avoid it or prevent it from worsening such as: consuming aspirin tablets to relieve the pain, applying hot or cold packs to the affected area, not lifting heavy objects, massaging the sore area, trying relaxation techniques, eating fruits, vegetables and food rich in fiber. By following the above tips or techniques, one can be able to avoid the severity of the Pinched Nerve.
